Munich, March 11, 2020: As part of the lecture series "Science for Everyone", Prof. Peter Eisner from Fraunhofer IVV gave a lecture on the topic: "Sustainably Healthy: How to turn by-products of food production into healthy and high-quality food". After an introduction to the objectives of the enable cluster by the managing director Dr. Kerstin Dressel, more than 160 interested attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the connection between sustainability and food production. In his lecture Prof. Eisner gave an overview of current developments on new, fibre-rich food ingredients from side streams and their possible applications in the context of a healthy diet. He also showed how the health-promoting properties of dietary fibres can be demonstrated in the laboratory and in humans within the scope of current research work in the enable cluster and how health-promoting convenience foods can be developed on this basis in cooperation with industry.
Freising, 06.February 2020: Lecture of nutriCARD speaker Prof. Stefan Lorkowski in the enable-seminar
The speaker of the nutriCARD-Cluster Prof. Dr. Stefan Lorkowski, nutrition scientist from the University of Jena, gave an exciting public lecture about the genesis of validated nutritional recommendations based on intervention studies.Prof. Lorkowski also took part in the internal part of the event and commented and discussed the lectures of enable young female scientists.
Munich, February 5, 2020: As part of the lecture series "Science for Everyone", Prof. Dr. Jessica Freiherr (Fraunhofer IVV and Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg) gave a rousing lecture on the topic "That smells good! - How are odours perceived and processed?" Results from the neurosciences on the sense of smell were presented. Many questions to the speaker testified the great interest in her topic. An introduction to the enable cluster was given by the managing director, Dr. Kerstin Dressel. The event was completely sold out.
Freising, January 16, 2020: Public lecture by Prof. Dr. Ute Nöthlings as part of the enable seminar
On January 16, 2020, the first enable seminar took place in the new setting. We are pleased that we have the spokeswoman for the DietBB cluster from Bonn, the nutrition epidemiologist Prof. Dr. Ute Nöthlings from the University of Bonn, who also commented and discussed the lectures from our Young Investigator network.
After an introductory lecture by Prof. Jakob Linseisen (Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich and Helmholtz Center for Health and Environment (HMGU)) about the health study of the National Cohort as a new opportunity for nutritional epidemiological research, two lectures from the enable-Young Investigator closed Network to: First, Dr. Nina Wawro (HMGU), about "Diet, metabotypes and type 2 diabetes risk", followed by Ms. Taylor Breuninger, also HMGU, who discussed the relationship between nutrition and the microbiome in her lecture on "Diet and microbiome associations in KORA FF4".
This was followed by the public lecture by Prof. Nöthlings on the topic: "Diet-Body-Brain: from evidence to targeted approaches", in which she presented the Bonn competence cluster of nutrition research DietBB and results from the sub-projects.
