Frühindikatoren für Adipositas (FA 2)
Maternal obesity confers the strongest risk for childhood overweight among perinatal risk factors, but the nutritionally-related mechanisms are unclear.
This project aims to identify risk indicators in offspring of obese mothers at birth and in early infancy who are susceptible to develop overweight and/or metabolic disturbances later on. Analyses within four modules will use already available biomaterials and data from the human birth cohort PEACHES that follows nearly 1700 mothers and their children, and will build on cord-blood metabolite candidates identified in the first funding period of enable. Partners with interdisciplinary expertise act jointly by providing unique resources and competencies including microbiome and metabolomics platforms.
Results are expected to deduce novel prognostic early-life risk markers (signatures) of overweight and/or metabolic dysregulation at school age, as a prerequisite for future evaluation of targeted preventive nutritional concepts during pregnancy and/or early infancy.
